Is é cuspóir an mhodúil seo ná go mbeidh an mac léinn eolach ar thraidisiún liteartha na Gaeilge agus go bhfaighidh sé tuiscint ar a bhríomhaire is atá na healaíona Gaeilge. Déanfar staidéar ar fhilíocht chomhaimseartha na Gaeilge agus ar na príomhléamha critice a rinneadh ar shaothar na bhfilí sin go dtí seo. Pléifear scéimeanna, tograí agus féilte filíochta sa phobal. Mar scoláire leis an nGaeilge Fheidhmeach, gheobhaidh sé tuiscint ar luach na filíochta mar acmhainn chun cur le saibhreas teanga agus leis an bhfeasacht chultúrtha. Aidhm eile ná cur le scileanna machnamhacha criticiúla an mhic léinn. [Translation for internal use only] This module aims to make students aware of the Irish language literary tradition and to sharpen insights into the vibrancy of the Irish language arts sector. Contemporary Irish language poetry and critical analysis of works will be studied. Various public schemes, projects and poetry festivals will be discussed. As a student of applied Irish, each participant will gain an understanding of the value of poetry as a learning resource which enriches language and cultural awareness. Another aim of the course is to improve the student's critical reflective practice skills. As is typical in applied literary studies, an emphasis will be placed on developing students communicative, questioning, critical, analytical and organisational skills through a variety of communicative tasks and learning activities.

Filí na tréimhse 1970 go dtí an lá atá inniu ann; réabhlóid na filíochta comhaimseartha; stáidéar téamúil ar roinnt saothar filíochta - an óige, an caidreamh idir daoine óga agus daoine lánfhásta, ómós áite, léiriú na Gaeltachta, íomhá na hÉireann, an grá san fhilíocht agus cúrsaí clainne; ceisteanna cultúrtha sna saothair seo - íomhá na Gaeltachta, an Ghaeltacht agus an Ghalltacht, féiniúlacht áitiúil agus náisiúnta, cúrsaí creidimh agus eile; an léirmheastóireacht liteartha; an fhilíocht chomhaimseartha in earnáil na meán agus sna meáin shoisialta; cúrsaí oideolaíochta - an fhilíocht mar acmhainn don fhoghlaimeoir teanga; an fhilíocht sa phobal: tacaíochtaí, tograí agus féilte; réimeanna teanga: scileanna agallaimh/chur i láthair i gcomhthéacs na n-ealaíon. Beidh deis ag mic léinn díriú go mion ar thriúr fhilí] [Translation for internal use only] Irish poets from 1970 to the present day; Ireland's contemporary poetry revolution; thematic study of selected poetry - youth, the relationship between young people and adults, sense of place, the representation of the Gaeltacht, the image of Ireland, love and family matters in poetry; cultural issues selected texts - the image of the Gaeltacht and Galltacht, local and national identity, religion and others; literary criticism; contemporary poetry in the media and social media sectors; pedagogical considerations - contemporary poetry as a resource for the language learner; Irish-medium poetry in the public domain: support schemes, community initiatives and projects, and poetry festivals; linguistic registers: interviewing/ presentation skills for the arts sector. [Translation for Internal Purposes Only] On successful completion of this module, the student will be able to: Critically analyze and logically review the poetry on the programme & carry out a thematic study of one poet on the syllabus; steer discussion and express literary opinions in an interview.

Déanfar cúlra an ábhair léinn a phlé, agus tabharfar faoi anailís a dhéanamh ar chúrsaí cumadóireachta agus ar na príomhléamha critice ar an bhfilíocht ó 1970 ar aghaidh. Déanfar grinnléitheoireacht i gceardlanna idirghníomhacha ar shaothar na bhfilí agus beidh ar mhic léinn tabhairt faoi thaighde pearsanta agus léitheoireacht thánaisteach ansin. Cuirfear liosta d'aistí agus léirmheasanna molta ar fáil ar Sulis ag tús an chúrsa. [Translation for internal use only] The approach will be informed by recent interest, in applied literary studies, in the pedagogical, critical, activist and therapeutic applications of literature. The area of poetry will be discussed and critical compositions and readings on poetry from 1970 on will be analysed in interactive tutorials. Poetry will be closely read in tutorials and students will then undertake secondary reading and self-directed research. At the start of the course, students will be provided with a list of recommended essays and reviews for reading, on Sulis. This personal work will give students the opportunity to practice the skills of reviewing and analysing poetry. A wide range of classroom and online activities and authentic materials will be used to create speaking, listening, writing and reading opportunities for the students. The teaching staff will be familiar with specific traits of UL graduates and these traits will be taken into account when designing tasks.They will also draw on research relating to the use of poetry as a teaching and learning resource in the language classroom. A poetry reading will be organised during the semester and students will be encouraged to attend poetry events, for example, IMRAM, An Fhéile Bheag Filíochta etc.
